About Us

St. John Christian Power Center (St. John) was incorporated January 13, 1988 with approximately 10 members under the guidance and leadership of Bishop Cornell R. Hughes and his wife, Pastor Angela. We have grown over the years, several churches and over two hundred people has passed through our ministry to their various stations in life. At present we have loyal and faithful members who are committed to the Gospel of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, among them are three ordained Elders and six ordained ministers.

Cornell Hughes answered the call to preach the gospel over twenty-three ago. He was among the first students to graduate from Jericho Christian Training College's ministry class. He was led to help the Pastor of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 4th and Rhode Island Avenue, NE, Washington, DC. Not long after he joined the congregation, his Pastor went to his eternal rest and Cornell R. Hughes' first pastorship began.

In 1988, St. John was born and Pastor Cornell Hughes became its Pastor. On July 18, 2009, Pastor Hughes was elevated to Bishop and his wife, Elder Angela A. Hughes was elevated as Pastor.

Our Vision

We, the Bishop, Pastor and members of St. John desire above all else to do the will of Jesus, the Christ, as described in Luke 4:18-19..."to preach the gospel to the poor, heal the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty to the captives, recovery of sight to the blind, set at liberty those who are oppressed and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord."

We would welcome the opportunity to fellowship with you.
